Richt doesn't have the personnel to match up with the best this nation has to offer—on either side of the ball—and as I watched the Bulldog's defensive line gasping for air late in the fourth, after the Spartan offense (and Kirk Cousins) found their swagger, I was given to horrid flashbacks of how Georgia fell apart in the second half against LSU a mere month ago.
The Bulldogs already didn't have enough horses on offense, particularly at running back, but even more than that it will be of the utmost importance that Grantham secure more talented guys on the defensive line—particularly at nose and linebacker—where injuries to key players at different times this season have left the defense looking much thinner than any coach should be comfortable seeing.
And while Jarvis Jones inspires visions of greatness next season, please be advised that he won't be flying under any teams radar next year, and will see his fair share of double and triple teams as his No. 29 will be referred to as enemy No. 1 by any offensive line coach worth his salt.
And speaking of the offensive line...
I certainly hope Georgia locks down a few more linemen to rotate in and out of games—guys who can step right in and perform just as ably as those they replace—and, speaking more to that point, if David Andrews does take over for the outgoing Ben Jones at center, I pray he does a more consistent job of keeping Aaron Murray upright and out of harms way.
I saw enough of No. 11 running for his life to last me through 2014.
Lastly, the secondary is going to need to find a new leader to look to as Brandon Boykin is now officially out of eligibility.
As of right now you could figure Branden Smith or Shaun Williams to try and be that guy, but I don't know that either of the two would be able to fill Boykin's shoes based on what I saw from them this season.
Big time teams need quality depth and, let's face it, Georgia isn't exactly two-deep at any position based on the production seen at various points this season. They will need to get a lot deeper if they expect to sustain any level of success in 2012.
